Newquay is a town and seaside resort on the Atlantic coast of Cornwall. The resort styles itself as 'The Surfing Capital of Britain' and in terms of popularity and profile few would argue with this. Newquay is firmly established as the centre of the UK's surf industry with a high concentration of surf shops, board manufacturers and hire shops in the town.
Newquay has an array of beaches although Fistral beach is best known, mostly because of its popularity with surfers. Apart from that there are Towan, Great Western and Tolcarne which are quite near to the town with Crantock bay and Watergate Bay not very far away.
Away from the surfing Newquay is also famous for its buzzing night life with a large array of pubs and night clubs to visit. Not for the feint-hearted, Newquay attracts large numbers due to the popularity of hen and stag nights in the area. Newquay has a large number of shops, both local and national along with hotels, B&Bs and restaurants.
Newquay has one higher education campus, Cornwall College Newquay. It offers foundation degree courses in Zoological Conservation, Marine Aquaculture, Animal Science and Wildlife Education and Media. Appropriately, the campus is close to Newquay Zoo in the Trenance Valley. There are also two secondary schools: Newquay Tretherras School is a state-funded specialist technology college and Treviglas College, which is a specialist business college.
Once a year on the last bank holiday weekend in may thousands of people flock to Newquay to take part The Run to the Sun. This is an annual events where people turn up in the town in cars and camper vans of all different shapes and sizes to drive them through the streets.
