St Agnes is a very traditional and picturesque village full of mining history set on the north coast of Cornwall. There are several reasons as to why people love to both live in and visit St Agnes. There are many arts and crafts shops and you can even take an art and craft tour, whilst doing this you can enjoy the areas beautiful scenery including the old miners cottages and the Driftwood Spans Hotel which was built in the 17th century and the cove which was many years ago a very busy harbour. The remains of the harbour can still be seen at low tide.
St Agnes also has many cliff top walks where you can see whats left of the old engine houses (these were used for hundreds of years in the production of St Agnes high quality tin). Whilst taking a cliff walk you can see Porthtowan which is one of Cornwall's top surfing beaches with really soft white sand. Porthtowan also has a bar at the edge of the beach offering great food and drink. There is then Trevellas porth which is very popular with fisherman. In addition there is Trevauance cove which is where you will see the old harbour and can find plenty of caves to explore. Last of all there is Chapel porth and although this is about two miles away the beach at low tide, is made up of white sand and you can walk along the beach to Porthtowan.
St Agnes also has a fascinating museum which gives an insight into the history of the village and its mining and seafaring history. The village of St Agnes offers a wide range of shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs which are open all year round. There is the peace and tranquility of the coastal footpath with some of the most dramatic scenery in Cornwall. The Cathedral City of Truro is only 9 miles away. There you will find many of the major high street stores.
