
St Ives is a traditional Cornish seaside town and part of Penwith district Council. Many years ago St Ives relied upon the fishing industry but these days it is solely reliant on tourism. St Ives has been named best seaside town of 2007 by the Guardian and has become renowned for its number of artists.
The transport links in and around St Ives are speciality designed to cope with the large numbers of tourists that the town attracts each year. There is a railway station which is directly linked to the Paddington to Penzance route and a Park-and-Ride system which operates from the Lelant Saltings railway station. One can also hop on a National Express coach from many major destinations throughout the country. The nearest airports to St Ives are Newquay and Plymouth. Private jets, charters and helicopters are served by Perranporth airfield.
St Ives has a number of schools just outside the town; two primary schools, one preparatory school and two secondary school. Truro's sixth form college is not too far away either.
