Dorset is a county in the South-west of England and its county town is Dorchester.

Dorset is well known for its Jurassic coastline (the English channel) and sandy beaches. Dorset is bordered by Devon on the West, Somerset to the North-west, Wiltshire to the North-east and to the East is Hampshire. The county is largely rural with many small villages, few large towns, and no cities or motorways.

Dorset offers some of the most stunning scenery in Britain along with safe clean bathing on stunning sandy beaches and exhilarating sailing experiences. There are plenty of beautiful coastal or inland walking routes, ancient sites and kite flying and wind surfing are very popular. The Great Dorset Steam Fair is an annual event not to be missed.

Dorset really is a great place to visit wherever your interests lie. With a cultural history to rival any county in the country and a literary past that boasts the likes of Hardy, and more contemporary writers such as Ian Fleming or John le Carré, Dorset shouldn't be missed.
